The Southall
Riots
Southall is
a suburb of West London, near London Airport, where there is large community
of Asians ,and a high percentage of immigrants. In 1979, the National
Front organized an election in this district. A demonstration against
this election was organized by the Socialist Workers' Party. Blair
Peach died during the Southall disturbances.
There were a lot
of riots in Southall. The worst riots were in 1981.

and vans containing Skinheads started to arrive for the disco and rock
concert in Southall

an Asian shop and abused the shopkeeper’s wife

a shop window was smashed

hundreds of Asian youths began
to gather

they chased the Skinheads
together

300 – 400 Skinheads listened
to the pop concert – "4 Skins"

the Skinheads shouted racial
insults

at 8:30 p.m. fighting broke
out

policemen were attacked –
a bus was set on fire

200 Skinheads and 500 Asians
were involved

61 injured policemen

28 injured civilians

23 were arrested
