The fascists are usually accused of having tried to oppress the ethnic minorities. Whereas the National Front is an illegal organization, the British National Party (BNP)is the official right-wing party. The poet alludes to the National Front and the Skinheads in the first stanza. In the third stanza he addresses the BNP.

The formation of the National Front as a union of the British National Party and League of Empire Loyalists goes back to 1967. In 1978 the National Front won greater electoral support than any other far right party in Britains political history. The membership of the National Front is rather like a bath of taps running at the plug hole empty. Members pour in and out. Although some 20.000 people went through the National Front in 1974, the stamble membership was about 12.000. John Tyndall, a National Front leader, left the party in 1984 and is now leader of the newly founded British National Party.

The British National Party (BNP) is an organization, which fights against immigration into the UK. The BNP believes that races are different and that most people, black and white, want to live with those of their own race and in their own way. All peoples need a place, a "homeland", where they have their own religion and their own culture and where they can live in peace and freedom without fear.

Dictionaries are not much help in understanding what is meant by the word. They usually define it as the belief that one`s own ethnic point of view is better than that of others, or as the belief that culture and behaviour are rooted in race.

So what is "racism"?

It is considerably more than any dictionary is likely to say.

It is behind all the normal aspirations of mankind that have defined nations since the beginning of history - but only as long as the aspirations are those of whites.
