• the built – up tension exploded on Friday
• a police car patrol found a young Black with a stab wound in his back
• they called an ambulance and bandaged the youth
• a group of young Blacks attacked them
• the second police car arrived
• a crowd of black youths was built up
• the black youths threw bottles through the windscreens
• later the road was filled with police, sirens, vehicles and young Blacks
• the Blacks gathered together
• police tried to push the riot back
• there was fierce fighting
• police was annoyed – and Blacks went jumpy
• 5000 people were estimated to be involved

• A black man was killed by cops
• Demonstrators complained about the police’s attitude to the local black community
• the demonstration cannot be seen as revenge for the dead black man, but must be considered as an act of protest against the racist social system
